The Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), a Bengaluru-based laboratory of DRDO, has partnered with ChiStats Labs, a data science and AI startup, to develop a revolutionary system for Aero Gas Turbine Engine (AGTE) health monitoring. This project leverages cutting-edge virtual sensors and artificial intelligence to ensure optimal engine performance and longevity.

This groundbreaking initiative focuses on creating a comprehensive diagnostic system for AGTEs. The system, built on a robust foundation of AI and Machine Learning (AI/ML), efficiently handles the massive amount of data generated by these engines. This allows for rapid and highly accurate operational assessments, leading to better-informed maintenance decisions. The virtual sensor framework, being developed indigenously, represents a significant leap forward in engine health monitoring.

This project extends beyond just engine health. It aims to enhance AI model validation and optimization for various defense applications. This will foster collaboration among scientists through shared and reproducible experiments, ultimately leading to the development of more reliable and efficient AI models. All the tools developed are conveniently accessible through a user-friendly web interface.

By enabling the development of more accurate and reliable AI models, this project empowers defense organizations to make better decisions across various critical applications. This will undoubtedly enhance overall capabilities and ensure a strategic advantage.

The project tackles the unique challenges associated with the vast quantities of data generated in defense scenarios. It accomplishes this by implementing a four-module framework:

  • Data/Feature Assessment: This module ensures the quality and relevance of data used for AI models.
  • Active Learning: This module prioritizes the most valuable data for model training, optimizing the learning process.
  • AI Believability: This module focuses on evaluating the explainability and trustworthiness of AI models, fostering user confidence.
  • Web Application: This module provides a user-friendly interface for accessing and utilizing the entire system.
