In a recent development, China has extended an offer to Nigeria for the Y-20 Kunpeng transport aircraft, affectionately known as the “Chubby Girl.” As reported by the Nigerian Defense News, the Y-20E stands as China’s largest military aircraft and was introduced to Nigeria’s Defense Minister, Mohammed Badar Abubakar, during a diplomatic visit to Beijing in November 2023.

The Y-20E made its global debut at the Dubai Air Show in December 2023, positioning itself as China’s counterpart to the American C-17 Globemaster. Notably, Nigeria presently relies on the C-130 Hercules as its primary tactical airlifter. The potential inclusion of the Y-20E in Nigeria’s fleet holds the promise of providing the country with authentic strategic airlift capabilities.

This move signifies a significant step in the enhancement of Nigeria’s military capabilities, offering the nation a modern and powerful aircraft that can contribute to a wide range of strategic transport missions.
