An IED expert who goes by the name ‘Walid Bhai’ send from across the border by Pakistan to target Indian forces in Kashmir almost succeed in his mission, when a 45kg IED laden Santro Car in Pulwama was detected by Indian forces and successfully defused in control manner faraway from any civilian houses thus averting major terror against the forces in the valley which Imran Khan has been hinting for a while now.

Imran Khan’s recent tweets have been a big giveaway that something big was planned by Hizbul Mujahideen and Jaish e Mohammed the dreaded terror groups supported by the Pakistani military in the valley to target Indian forces just like they did earlier in Pulwama which killed 40 CRPF men. There have been comments recently on the MMRCA 2.0 acquisition program from the IAF top brass in light of changing economic calculations due to the coronavirus. It is worthwhile revisiting the contending aircraft in this contest, and its most noticeable absentee, the Lockheed Martin F-35. The F-35 is the only fighter jet available for purchase that is 5th generation and features stealth.

This must be seen in the context of the standoff between India and China, which continues to escalate across several points across the Line of Actual Control ( LAC). It is becoming apparent that, whatever aircraft gets “down-selected” in this contest, will have to provide answers for its most probable high threat scenario. Continue reading

While the Indian Air Force (IAF) wants to retire its Hawker Siddeley HS 748 turboprop Transport aircraft which was originally designed and initially produced by the British aircraft manufacturer Avro and later license-produced by the State-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) but HAL has other plans to keep them going for next two decades more as it plans to modernize and upgrade them to the latest safety and standards.

While IAF categorically has rejected HAL proposed Upgrade plans to modernize its HS 748 Avro fleet and has even selected Airbus developed C295 as its replacement but HAL has been arguing that since Avor was designed as a medium-sized turboprop airliner it still has plenty of life still left in them and aging of the fleet has nothing to do with the airframe of the aircraft more to do with the technological obsoletion of the fleet. Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria spelled out for the first time that Indian Air Force (IAF) is looking for a jet in the middle-weight and is in the Rafale class to procure 114 jets for the IAF in Global Tender which has seen fighter jets from Light and even from Heavy Class competing in what is often described has worlds biggest fighter jet competition.

Rafale class reference confirms that IAF is looking for jet which is around 25 tonnes in Max takeoff weight eliminating many of the jets which are competing, making way for only three jets which fit the bill for the IAF thus eliminating 5 jets who are looking to bid in the tender process. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi again for 100th time called up OIC Secretary-General, Dr. Yousef A. Al-Othaimeen, to update him on the so-called aggravating situation in Indian Jammu and Kashmir including Indian move to alter the territory’s demography and he also called up UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to discuss Kashmir, diplomatic push even when Pandemic should have been the key focus area of the country shows that Pakistan has failed to rake up Kashmir issue at International forums with any major success to show to its local population.

Majority of Pakistani Media which has been pro-Imran Khan and Pro-Establishment since India withdraw Kashmir’s Special Status has been quite vocal of the failure of the government to punish India which according to them breaks imaginary International laws on Kashmir, recent domicile law by India on J&K gives equal rights to the people of India to become a citizen of the newly formed Union Territory which they see has plans to replace local Muslim population of the UT with Hindu population. It all took a fake tweet from Pakistani twitter handle to create a celebratory atmosphere on the other side of the border and soon talks about ‘Ghazwa-e-Hind’ was most talked about thing among Pakistani social media accounts some even volunteering to fight for the liberation of Kashmir and their delusional ‘Ghazwa-e-Hind’ against India until Taliban clarified that tweet saying Taliban will attack India after Ramzan was fake and they have no interests to interfere in the Indian affairs especially Kashmir.

Taliban have not evolved into a political movement and have remained a jihadi force but it knows that many people of Afghanistan still consider India has a friend more than Pakistan that they will agree to join to fight against India. While the Taliban will want to pretend to keep peace with India and not interfere in matters of India, but that it is no assurance they won’t provide logistical support to the proxy war which Pakistan has been waging for the last three decades against India in Kashmir. The U.S. Navy has issued a Request for Information (RFI) on May 14 for its Undergraduate Jet Training System (UJTS) program to procure a new jet trainer aircraft to replace its current fleet on 194 T-45 Goshawk aircraft. About the programme, US Navy is seeking a non-developmental (existing) land-based jet trainer aircraft design that is capable of performing Field Carrier Landing Practice (FCLP) events and Carrier touch-and-go events, and the corresponding effects of these high sink rate landings. The Navy doesn’t want its new trainer jet to land and take off from the aircraft carrier, i.e., no arrestment or catapult launches. The current T-45 fleet is able to conduct carrier landings and launches.

The USN wants a two-pilot aircraft with ejection seats. The jet should be able to be flown from either cockpit. Each example of the next-generation trainer is expected to fly 400h per year. The USN wants to conduct field carrier landing practices at an annual rate of 1,200 per aircraft. It also wants each trainer to perform carrier touch-and-go landings 45 times per year. The service ceiling of the aircraft should be 41,000 ft. Continue reading

If we had Rafales, we’d have shot down 4-5 Pakistani jets after Balakot said IAF ex-chief Dhanoa but the exact same was said for Sukhoi-Su-30MKI jet since its induction in early 2001 to many Indians that it is the best fighter jet in the whole of Asia and technical performance in par to the best what World can offer and can dominate skies of Asia. India’s defense ministry even has listed several reasons for the higher costs of the Su-30 fighter jets supplied to the Indian Air Force (IAF) from the local production line, in comparison to those supplied directly by the original Russian manufacturer.

While we were paying more for a local product without actually investing in the right kind of weapons for the aircraft in question to make it always lethal in the sky. The inability of the Two Su-30s to drown PAF F-16s and not even firing a single shot only confirms that platform alone can’t win your battles unless you invest in the right weapons for the platform too. New defense reforms to help make the Indian Defence Sector `Atmanirbhar’ just seems to be Old Wine in New Bottle with little or nothing actually for defense sector in India to work from scratch as so-called ” Negative List” which bars Indian forces from acquiring weapons and systems from foreign countries has very limited and insignificant items to be called major reform policy of the government in the Countries defense sectors.

Leaving Artillery systems, the list consists of Ammunitions and Remotely Piloted Drones systems which most of the countries could build locally in the country anyways. The so-called ” Negative List” does not has Fighter jets, Main Battle Tanks, Submarines, or even Assault rifles and other expensive defense items that usually leave a hole in the pocket of the country. The US Navy (USN) has begun its search for a new jet trainer to replace its aging Boeing T-45 Goshawk fleet which was inducted in the ’70s and with its aircraft average being aged between 10 and 31 years. T-45 Goshawk is based on British Aerospace developed Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT) with tandem dual seats meant to provide basic, advanced flying and weapons training to Navy’s Carrier pilots.

As per Request for Information (RFI) issued by the US Navy (USN), it wants a non-developmental, land-based jet trainer capable of field carrier landing practice and nuclear aircraft carrier touch-and-go landings by 2028 or sooner and wants a two-pilot aircraft with ejection seats. As soon as Nepal’s Puppet Prime Minister KP Oli took taunts at India’s and showcased New Political maps of Nepal with Indian territories Supporters of the ruling dispensation of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) took to Twitter to Troll Indian media and also demanded that since India doesn’t respect British era Sugauli treaty and refuses to return areas like Lipulekh, Kalapani, Limpiyadhura making up around 335km of areas, Nepal should also claim the present-day Uttarakhand state of India, the Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Darjeeling area which were returned to British India after their defect.

King of Nepal was defeated in 1814–15 Anglo-Nepalese War and ejected them from the present-day Uttarakhand state of India, the Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Darjeeling area by 1815. King of Nepal was forced to accept a peace treaty with the British (the Sugauli Treaty) in March 1816 and ceded to East India Company the territories in India they had won since 1791 against smaller kingdoms. Amid Pandemic situation in the country, Nepal Communist Party (NCP) which is the ruling political party in Nepal has issued New Political Maps of Nepal which included areas like Lipulekh, Kalapani, Limpiyadhura making up around 335km of areas has it’s own even though it simply can’t produce original old maps which it relies on to make a claim over this areas nor the British era Sugauli treaty. what has come more shocking to Indian analysts is that the claim of the area keeps expanding every few decades and from 35km disputed area called Kalapani territory it has now reached over 335 km in the latest map.

British claimed the Kalapani territory in 1865 which meant that the agreement of Sugauli did not apply to the region and Kalapani territory continued to be shown as part of India from 1947 when India acquired independence from British rule and became a republic and small police station was also established in the area in 1956 and later army post after the war of 1962. Nepal too continued to show this area outside of Nepal and irony is that Old Political map of Nepal never had this area under its Maps before until now. Continue reading

State-owned HAL Entering Naval Utility Helicopters Competition has come as a shocker for many in the Indian Navy under which 111 helicopters could be procured by Navy to meet requirements for ship-borne operations for search and rescue (SAR), special heliborne operations, armed patrol, sniper operations, and VVIP travel.

HAL is proposing to offer a navalised variant of the 5.5t ALH Dhruv MkIII helicopter, with both a folding rotor and tail boom but Indian Navy’s inventory already has 8 Dhruvs which are mostly based on land-based Naval air base and in past failed to be qualified for operations from the Naval warships due to technical challenges which HAL has failed to resolve since 2003. Common Myth among Pakistani’s is that It’s India who backed out of carrying a Plebiscite in Kashmir as per United Nations Security Council resolution on Kashmir and it not surprising many Pakistanis want United Nations Security Council to be again involved in Kashmir so that India can be kicked out of Kashmir and they can have what they claim is theirs since independence.

“The Kashmir Story” by B. L. Sharma published in 1967, shows How Jinnah and Pakistan both avoided Plebiscite in Kashmir. Mr. B. L. Sharma needs no introduction, for chiefly as Officer on Special Duty for Kashmir Affairs in the Indian Foreign Office he accompanied nine Indian delegations to the united nations between 1948 and 1965 in the capacity of Adviser. In 1952 he was again a member of the Indian delegation for talks in Geneva, and he also attended the Tashkent conference, in January 1966, as Adviser. Continue reading

Air Force Chief RKS Bhadauria shared his road map to procure nearly 450 fighter jets for the air force in next few decades recently and the bulk of them will be a combination of 83 Tejas Mk1A and 100 Tejas Mk2 and 100 AMCA 5.5 Generation fighter jet giving a major boost to the local fighter jet programs in the country while IAF continues plans to procure 114 jets of ” Rafale Class ” in an International Competition for the fighter jets.

In Bhadauria’s future fleet procurement vision what didn’t cut, it seems to be the ADA proposed Twin-engine Medium Class Omni-Role Combat Aircraft (ORCA) or Twin Engine Deck Based Fighter (TEDBF) program both for Indian Air force and Indian Navy. ORCA aka TEDBF was proposed earlier this year by the ADA and HAL to meet the carrier-based fighter jet requirement of the Indian Navy and a lighter air force variant based on it was also on offer to the Indian Air Force.
