West Bengal and Odisha will get two new radar stations each by August, a senior Coast Guard officer said on Tuesday. With the commissioning of the new radar stations, the total number of such installations along the West Bengal-Odisha coasts will increase to eight, Coast Guard Commander, North East Region, Inspector General IS Chauhan said on Tuesday.

“West Bengal and Odisha will get two new radar stations each… these will be operational by August this year,” Chauhan said at a press conference at the Coast Guard base at Haldia.

Following Israel’s accusation of UNRWA staff being involved in the October 7 Hamas attack, Ministry of External Affairs official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on Thursday, said that India has been extending assistance to Palestine both bilaterally and through the United Nations, adding that, at the same time, it has zero tolerance towards terrorism.

The US State Department is poised to approve a game-changing deal for India, paving the way for the acquisition of advanced GE-414 engines and crucial 80% Transfer of Technology (ToT). This will significantly impact India’s indigenous fighter jet programs, particularly the Tejas MkII and AMCA MkI.

Initially, India will procure 99 engines, but requirements could exceed 400 to power at least 200 Tejas MkII and 100 engines for the Twin engine AMCA MkI jets. The Tejas MkII program aims for 200 jets, while the AMCA MkI envisions 40 jets by 2030-32 and additional 5 prototypes.

Indian space startups Dhurva Space and Bellatrix Aerospace have successfully tested their P30 Satellite Platform and high performance green propulsion systems respectively onboard ISRO’s POEM initiative.

Hyderabad-based Dhruva Space, in a statement, said the successful testing of ‘Launching Expeditions for Aspiring Payloads – Technology Demonstrator’ (LEAP-TD) will help embark on its satellite mission. The statement said Dhruva Space has validated the P-30 platform and its various subsystems in-orbit and the results were confirmed by reception of telemetry and beacon data at the ground station of the Thiruvananthapuram-based Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST).

Admiral R. Hari Kumar, Chief of the Indian Navy, has provided a positive update on two major acquisition projects for the Indian Navy – the procurement of 26 Rafale fighter jets from France and the construction of three additional Scorpène submarines.

Admiral Kumar confirmed that the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has already approved the acquisition of 26 Rafale jets for the Navy. He clarified that while an official announcement may not be forthcoming immediately, price negotiations and contractual formalities are actively progressing.

French aviation giant Dassault Aviation is reportedly in talks to acquire the stake held by Anil Ambani’s Reliance Defence in their joint venture, Dassault Reliance Aerospace Limited (DRAL). The joint venture operates a plant in Nagpur, which was established with the aim of expanding operations and manufacturing a complete Falcon business jet.

As per industry sources familiar with the matter, Dassault Aviation has initiated discussions with Reliance Defence to buy out their 51 percent stake in the joint venture. The move comes as further expansion of the Nagpur plant has been put on hold due to financial constraints and the inability to inject additional funds into the project.

India and the United States are currently engaged in discussions regarding the development of a next-generation, long-range family of artillery precision-guided projectiles. The aim is to create munitions with enhanced lethality capable of defeating long-range targets. Both countries are exploring the possibility of developing multiple families of artillery projectiles that can be seamlessly used with existing 155mm artillery guns, requiring no modifications.

While specific details about the program have not been disclosed yet, concepts such as cannon-launched precision-guided munitions (PGMs) and Extended Range Hypervelocity Projectiles (HVP-ER) are being considered for potential joint ventures and subsequent production.
