Indian Public Sector Undertaking, Bharat Earth Movers Limited has issued an Expression of Interest (EOI) for interested partners for Co-Production and Supply of Articulated All-Terrain Vehicle (AATV) to be processed under the Buy Indian category as per Para 9 of chapter I of DAP-2020. On 25 March, the Indian Army issued an RFP for 18 articulated all-terrain vehicles (AATV) suitable for operations ‘over varied terrain like snow, desert, and slush’ at altitudes up to 18,000ft.
The Indian Army will operate them in both mountainous and marshy areas. This can be deducted from the fact that the RFP requires 12 vehicles to be delivered to Nimu in mountainous Ladakh near the China border.
EOI mentions that BEML will hold IP rights for all technologies developed for said AATV project and will have min 60% indigenous content. The AATV should have a facility for carriage of a minimum of ten (10) personnel (excluding the vehicle crew), all with a combat load. Should have inbuilt ballistic protection of minimum standard STANAG 4569 Level 1 (KE threat) for both opaque & transparent surfaces with an overall weight of fewer than 20 Tons.
