Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE) Pune along with Tata Advanced Systems Ltd and Bharat Forge Ltd, will split orders between two firms but only one design of the gun is likely to be approved.
Bharat Forge and Tata Advanced Systems have each developed nearly 6 guns each of ATAGS that for the last few years have been used for developmental and user trials by the Indian Army. Each gun has a core Artillery Gun technology provided by the ARDE but many of the other systems have been developed by Industrial partners separately.
Both firms will be engaged in the production of the winning design of the ATAGs as the requirement is for nearly 1700 guns. the first lot will of 150 units that will be used to remove teething issues in the production line and refine the product over the period. Both Industrial partners eventually will have a production capacity of nearly 150 guns per year when the major order is released.
