Apollo Micro Systems Pvt Ltd, a Hyderabad-based company specializing in electronic and electro-mechanical solutions, has been awarded a significant contract to manufacture 10 sets of the Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MPATGM). This missile system represents a leap forward in India’s defense capabilities, focusing on anti-tank warfare.
The MPATGM, a third-generation Fire & Forget Anti-Tank Guided Missile, is designed for deployment from a tripod, offering a maximum operational range of 2.5 kilometers. This system is particularly notable for its “Fire & Forget” capability, where once launched, the missile autonomously guides itself to the target without further input from the operator, enhancing combat efficiency and operator safety.
One of the standout features of the MPATGM is its Tandem Warhead configuration. This design is critical for penetrating modern tanks equipped with Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA):
- Precursor Charge (PC): The first warhead in the tandem setup, designed to neutralize or weaken the ERA, which is intended to detonate any incoming projectiles prematurely.
- Main Charge (MC): Following the precursor charge, the main charge strikes the now-vulnerable armor, achieving significant penetration. This dual-charge mechanism ensures that even heavily armored targets can be effectively engaged.
