In a recent development that has raised eyebrows, an Islamabad-based think tank, closely tied to Pakistan’s National Security Division (NSD), has contracted a Washington-based lobbying firm for a hefty sum of Rs 41.61 crore ($1.5 million). This move is seen as a desperate attempt by Pakistan to galvanize international support for the Kashmir issue, particularly in Western countries.
This strategic decision comes in the wake of growing global attention to the Khalistan movement, which has been emboldened by support from certain Western nations, including Canada and the United States. As the Khalistani diaspora intensifies its efforts to destabilize India, Pakistan appears to be capitalizing on this opportunity to push its own agenda.
By hiring a prominent lobbying firm, Pakistan aims to to shape the narrative on Kashmir in Western media and policy circles, highlighting human rights abuses and other contentious issues. The firm will seek to build a coalition of like-minded countries to pressure India on the Kashmir issue. By amplifying negative narratives about India’s human rights record, Pakistan hopes to tarnish India’s international reputation.
However, Pakistan’s efforts to internationalize the Kashmir issue may face significant challenges. India has consistently maintained that the Kashmir issue is a bilateral matter, and it has taken steps to address concerns about human rights and security in the region.
Moreover, the international community is increasingly aware of Pakistan’s role in sponsoring terrorism and its support for cross-border terrorism in India. This could undermine Pakistan’s credibility and limit the effectiveness of its lobbying efforts.
As the geopolitical landscape shifts, it remains to be seen whether Pakistan’s latest strategy will yield the desired results or if it will backfire, further isolating the country on the global stage.
