Selected Prime Minister Imran Khan is moving ahead with plans to make Gilgit Baltistan (GB) Pakistan’s fifth province as new laws are being framed after massive rigging of the recent elections in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) where present Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf came to power and now attempts are being made to bring material changes in Pakistan-occupied areas of the Indian territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz party’s (PML-N) in recent elections in PoK repeatedly claimed in elections rallies that the Pakistani establishment headed by Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Imran Khan has struck a deal with India for final settlement of Kashmir where each country will keep their side of Kashmir to themselves.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif, daughter of former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif in election rallies claimed that after massive rigging, POK will be made into 6 provinces of Pakistan with the blessings of the Pakistani establishment under the deal with India. Maryam also retweeted videos of massive protests where protestors demanded ” Azadi ” from Pakistan that took place after Imran Khan’s PTI won the majority by bagging 25 seats in the elections, that many prominent Pakistani journalists have claimed was fudged by the Pakistani establishment to remove PML-N from the power that has been long opposing changing of Gilgit-Baltistan status.
Raja Farooq Haider, the so-called Prime Minister of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) who belongs to PML-N last year even claimed that he will be the last PM of the POK as Imran Khan’s PTI has plans to convert it into another province thus killing its so-called autonomous status theirs by settling long pending Kashmir dispute with India.
India has protested Pakistan’s plan to convert Gilgit Baltistan (GB) into Pakistani province and recently called held Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) elections as a cosmetic exercise to camouflage illegal occupation of the Indian territory of Jammu and Kashmir. But Think tanks linked to the Government of India see this on a positive note since this move by Islamabad in Gilgit Baltistan (GB) will blunt any remaining International criticism of India scrapping autonomous status of the Indian administrated Jammu and Kashmir after Article 370 and Article 35A was diluted to non-existence and further diminish Pakistan’s claims that GB and POK are autonomous regions.
