Lieutenant Rigzin Chorol has become the pride of Ladakh after becoming the first woman from the cold desert region to be commissioned as an officer in the Indian Army. On Saturday, she graduated from the Officers Training Academy (OTA) in Chennai and was commissioned as an officer in the Indian Army. Along with her, 35 female cadets graduated.

Lt. Chorol’s husband, Rifleman Rigzin Kendal of the 3 Ladakh Scouts, was killed in a tragic incident while on duty. But she recovered from the shock and prepared for the OTA, where she was accepted into the premier institute.

Her family members proudly watched the SSC W28 Course passing out parade in OTA Chennai after a gruelling 11-month training.

Lt. Chorol is an economics graduate who aspired to be an Army officer in order to fulfil her husband’s ambition. She would be able to provide a proud environment if she joined the Army.
