Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari in an interview with the ” Bharat Shakti ” has said that the air force in response to the request for information (RFI) for procurement of 114 jets under MRFA Tender has received been offered fighter jets from 8 OEMs and the air force is in the process of framing Request for Proposal (RFP) soon.

American aircraft including the Boeing’s F-15EX and Lockheed Martin’s F-21 (Rebadged F-16), Russian Mig Corporation’s Mig-35, and Sukhoi Bureau’s Su-35 along with the French Dassault Rafale, Swedish Saab Gripen-E, and the Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft from Eurofighter consortium are likely participants in the program.

Chief confirmed that the Indian Air Force (IAF) would prefer to take the ‘Buy Global Make in India’ route over the strategic partnership policy model to produce the planes within the country just like how the C-295 deal with Airbus will be executed with the Tata Systems in India.

While IAF Chief said 8 OEMs have responded this time, usually it always has been 7 OEMs, it’s not clear at this point of time if there is a new entry in the MRFA Tender or if it was a slip off to mind.
