Vice Admiral DM Deshpande on Indian Navy has confirmed that Navy shortly will be holding Internal discussions on exact tonnage, size and design prospects of the Second Indigenous Aircraft Carrier-II (IAC-II) before it is presented to Government of India for approvals.

When asked if IAC-II will have Nuclear Propulsion, Deshpande refused to confirm and only added that post-Internal discussions details of the high ticket item will emerge and till now nothing has been frozen on IAC-II.

Indian Government and the United States of America have been discussing possible close cooperation on development of IAC-II. US Government already has given export clearance to Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) and AAG (Advanced Arresting Gear) to be used on IAC-II and also has agreed to provide consultation to develop radiation shield for IAC-II to protect its crew from harmful radiation from its Nuclear reactor if India decided to use Nuclear Propulsion on IAC-II .

US Government also has agreed to help India to carryout flight certification trials of IAC-I (INS Vikrant) when the aircraft carrier goes on Sea Trials from next years on wards .
