IAF Chief Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria speaking to the media has confirmed that the Indian Air Force (IAF) will procure 70 HTT-40 Basic trainer aircraft from State-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) soon after it successfully demonstrated critical six-turn spin test capability recently.

HAL has confirmed that So far that all the Preliminary Services Qualitative Requirements (PSQR) test points have been met successfully and with the successful spin tests, the last metric has been completed. HAL officials have said that if all goes right then it will get IOC (Initial operational clearance) by end of 2019.

HAL is looking to start LSP (limited series production) of HTT-40 by 2020. IAF test pilots are yet to evaluate HTT-40 but due to scrapping of 36 additional Pilatus PC-7 Mark II trainer BTA from Pilatus due to corruption allegations, there is some sort of urgency to fast track the process of acquiring 70 HAL made HTT 40 BTA soon.
