According to information provided by DRDO, Three Small Turbo Fan Engine (STFE) which is also known as Manik turbofan engine generating 4.25kN Thrust are under fabrication which is likely to be used to power in the upcoming trials of India’s sub-sonic Nirbhay cruise missile.
DRDO’s GTRE had developed T1, T2, and T3 Prototype engines which begin developmental ground-based testing from 2017 and have achieved over two hours of continues operation at its peak thrust. last year Manik engine also completed High Altitude Cold Climate Starting trials in Leh.
BrahMos Aerospace Thiruvananthapuram Limited (BATL) will be assisting GTRE and DRDO in the integration process of the Manik engine with the Nirbhay Cruise Missile. The success of Manik engine is key for several other programs which require the need for the indigenous engine.
India is working on Anti-Ship Missile and Air-Launched Cruise Missile which will use Manik engine.
