Confirming what had reported a few days ago that CCS Chaired by PM Modi had cleared a new production line to manufacture LCA-Tejas, Raksha Mantri Manohar Parrikar while speaking to the media at the inauguration of Aero India 2017 has confirmed this development.

According to Raksha Mantri Manohar Parrikar, the new plant will be up and running in next 18-24 months and will have the capacity to manufacture 8 LCA-Tejas aircraft per year.

First Production line which is also augmented with old Kiran hangar been currently used to manufacture LCA-Tejas can manufacture 8 LCA-Tejas per year. With new production line becoming operational in next 2 years, HAL will be bale to manufacture 16 LCA-Tejas per year from 2019-20.

Upgraded LCA-Tejas MK-1A will go into production at the same time so by 2025 all 83 ordered MK-1A will be delivered to Indian Air force. MK2 variant will likely have its first flight by 2021 and the aircraft developed will be of IOC standard but aircraft will require two to three years to achieve FOC for its production to begin around same time MK-1A delivery is in last batch production.
