According to information provided by DRDO in its Annual Report for 2017, Small Turbo Fan Engine (STFE) which is also known as Manik turbofan in 2017 has achieved 98% indigenization level and BrahMos Aerospace Thiruvananthapuram Limited (BATL) developed T1, T2, and T3 Prototype engines have demonstrated for its endurance of 2 hours continuous at 50,000 rpm under full load conditions .
Manik Engine earlier this year was also successfully tested in High Altitude Cold Climate Starting trials in Leh and has already undergone rigorous ground and high power tests for over two years now.
4.25kN Thrust Manik Engine will be used to power indigenous long-range subsonic Nirbhay Cruise missile and will also be used on new Anti-Ship Missile (AShM) which DRDO is developing with BrahMos Aerospace for Indian Navy.
According to Industrial sources close to idrw.org, Manik Engine is also a Top contender to power a new Stealthy Subsonic Air-launched cruise missile (ALCM) with a strike range of 400-500 km tasked for precision attacks on high-value targets to be operational from all combat fighter fleet of Indian Air Force in near future.
