BrahMos Aerospace is currently working on a miniature version of the BrahMos missile, called BrahMos NG which is still in the design stage and development is a few years away but a mock up of the missile system has been displayed under the wings of the LCA-Tejas Mk-1 aircraft at Aero India 2019.
Mini BrahMos NG-A due to its smaller size and lower weight will allow air force to use the missile system at various fighter jets of the air force. DRDO initial had said the missile system will be ready for induction into force by 2025 but missile system is yet to carry out any developmental trials.
BrahMos Aerospace presently is also looking at extending the missile’s range to 800km after India’s full membership to the Missile Technology Control Regime in 2016, which removed the cap on the range to the BrahMos cruise missile. In 2017 India test fired the extended range missile to hit a target beyond 400 km but BrahMos with an extended range of 800km is likely to be ready for testing by end of this year.
