Previous Indian media news report had pinpointed that recent failure could be neither attributed to Hardware failure or Software failure and Research Centre Imarat (RCI) blamed ADE-developed software and ADE was pointing towards the defective hardware supplied by RCI.
But as per latest report culprit behind recent test failure of Nirbhay cruise missile has been identified and it is reported that Nirbhay’s onboard flight control software malfunctioned shortly after lift-off, causing its first-stage solid rocket booster to lose thrust.
India’s indigenously designed Nirbhay cruise missile four minutes after takeoff diverted from its intended flight path, which forced DRDO officials monitoring the launch to command missile to self-destruct over the Bay of Bengal.
Bengaluru-based Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), which has developed Nirbhay cruise missile has been facing issues with flight control software and navigation system.
With Reports of Major Review and program on verge of been closed down doing rounds, there are also buzz that Project might be handed over to another Defence lab or Program might be relaunched in different avatar since closing Subsonic cruise missile development will be disaster for India’s Armed forces since India had planned to develop Land, Ship, submarine, Air Force variant and even longer ranged sub-sonic cruise missiles in future .
