The picture above has been going around defense circle off late and claimed by many to be the first possible configuration design of Tejas MK-2. Updated Mk2 configuration now features canards as per the image. all previous models of Tejas Mk-2 displayed by DRDO and HAL didn’t have canards but for some time now rumors of Canards making a comeback to the Tejas Mk2 design has been going around.
Canards as per experts will improve the low-speed performance of the Tejas Mk-2 which has now grown into full-fledged Medium multi-role aircraft which can be compared with Mirage-2000 in terms of its weapons and payload carrying capabilities.
This is not the first time Canards were considered for LCA-Tejas program, in early 90’s too it was considered and then rejected due to lack of any major performance improvements. It is expected that the final design of Tejas Mk-2 will be showcased at upcoming Aero India 2019 which will be held in Bangalore next year.
