Last year Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and his Vietnam counterpart both reached an agreement to train Vietnamese pilot in India to operate Sukhoi 30. According to latest Indian media report, Indian Air Force and their counterpart Vietnam People’s Air Force have reached initial workout plan.

As per media reports, a small batch of Vietnamese pilot will be arriving in India by end of this year to begin their training on Sukhoi 30. Vietnam People’s Air Force is also interested in learning from India’s experience in repair and maintenance of the Su-30s. Indian Air Force currently operates up to 220 Su-30s domestically assembled by the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited under Russian license.

Vietnam People’s Air Force operates nearly 35 Sukhoi Su-30MK2 aircraft. Su-30MK2 is a further improvement to Su-30MKK with upgraded avionics and maritime strike capabilities But is different in terms of performance and capabilities in comparison to India’s Sukhoi-30MKI which has canard foreplanes, thrust vectoring turbofans and improved radars.
