The indigenously development Airborne Early Warning and Control System aircraft (AEW&C) “Netra” is participating in its first ever International exercise in ongoing Ex CopeIndia 2018 with the visiting United States Air Force crew.
Group Captain Pradeep Batra who is the commanding officer of the AEW&C Squadron speaking to the media said that ” AEW&C is indigenously developed and recently inducted into IAF and also added that AEW&C since its induction has participated in various air exercise and this was the first time aircraft participated in an International exercise.
Batra also said that ” AEW&C is here to learn and also support both the forces”. He also mentioned air to air refueling capabilities of the aircraft which allows it to stay in the air for long mission and it is fully capable of taking on any level of threats levels.
DRDO’s AWACS using the Brazilian Embraer-145 jets is cost effective and better than many expensive competitors in its class which has created several interests from countries in the region which in past have had talks with DRDO and Indian government.
