ADA Director Dr. Girish Deodhare while speaking to media has confirmed that the Final Operational Clearance (FOC) for the Tejas Mk 1 will happen by July 2018 and Agency is gearing up to conduct Air-to-Air Refuelling (AAR) trials of Tejas by end of April.

Deodhare confirmed Ground Trials of the AAR probe has been completed along with all possible simulated ground tests have been successfully completed for which ADA is planning to intensify sortie rates of Tejas Mk-1 aircraft and plans to touch 60 sorties per month so that FOC Certification happens on the schedule this time.

Interestingly ADA also has been cleared for development of unmanned Tejas after it is granted FOC for testing technologies for the future. While speaking on Tejas Mk-II, Deodhare confirmed that Mk-II will belong to the Medium weight class and will come with a higher capacity engine, higher range and payload capacity, improved aerodynamics etc.

While speaking on the export potentials of the LCA-Tejas, Deodhare confirmed that many countries like Singapore, Sri Lanka, Turkmenistan have shown interest in Tejas. Singapore has come forward to show interest in the trainer version of Tejas for training purpose.
