DRDO, after been granted several export clearances for its indigenously developed weapons system, is all set to set up its own commercial arm, which will promote in International markets products and services emanating from the DRDO.
For the time being BrahMos Corp will be taking care of final negotiation for sale of Akash Surface to Air Missile System to Vietnam, but Soon a new commercial arm will be setup which will be in charge of all systems developed by all DRDO’s associated laboratories with export in mind.
Like Antrix which is the commercial arm of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). DRDO’s commercial arm will be in charge of Participation in International Defence and Aerospace exhibitions to promote weapons systems which have been cleared for export by Government of India.
The commercial arm will also be in charge of generating Inquiries and pitching and participating in International tenders issued by countries which have been also cleared for export. Industrial experts speaking to idrw.org have said that like any standard Industrial practice new DRDO’s commercial arm will be in charge from handling customer query, negotiation to final contract signing, as and when new products are cleared for exports catalogue will only get bigger.
The government of India already has cleared several DRDO developed weapons systems like LCA-Tejas, Akash SAM, BrahMos Cruise missiles, Radars and other small arms and ammunitions.
