DRDO chief Dr. S Christopher has confirmed that Next Generation Technology Demonstrator (NGTD) based on Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) will be powered Initially by American supplied GE F414-INS6 turbofan engines generating 98kN Thrust.

But he refused to confirm if India will seek an indigenous engine solution to power production variant of the AMCA in near future. DRDO chief for time being didn’t rule out the development of Super Kaveri Engine to power AMCA but India is also open to considering all the engines which are on offer to India before making a decision. After showcasing a Dhanush based 155mm/52-caliber Mounted Gun System at the ongoing DefeExpo 2018, OFB officials have confirmed that there are also developing a Mounted Gun System based on 155mm/45-caliber which too will be offered to Indian Army for trails.

155mm/52-caliber MGS already has cleared Internal trails and according to OFB officials will be sent to Army trials soon. Dhanush based 155mm/52-caliber Mounted Gun System mounted on Tatra Truck can also be mounted on 6×6 or 8 x 8 Super Stallion chassis from Ashok Leyland if asked by customer said the same officials. To Enhance offensive firepower immensely of Indian Army against China, DRDO in 2015 was tasked to develop a new mobile short-range ballistic missile dubbed ” Pralay ” which has the ability to carry several different conventional warheads.

At the Ongoing DefeXpo 2018, Some more information on the Pralay Short Surface to Surface Missile has been revealed by the agencies involved in the development of the missile system. Pralay SSM will have a range of 350km which can carry a payload of 1000kgs. Pralay with a light payload of 500kg will be able to hit a target as far as 400km. Continue reading

Larsen & Toubro Limited, formally confirmed that first batch of 10 K9 VAJRA-T 155 mm, 52 calibre Tracked Self Propelled (SP) gun is set to be delivered to Indian Army Soon as per schedule. Engineering Giant Larsen and Toubro developed K9 VAJRA-T jointly with South Korean defense major Hanwha Techwin (HTW) which was based on their K9 Thunder.

The first batch of 10 K9 VAJRA-T guns was directly brought from South Korea and then locally assembled in greenfield manufacturing line at Hazira, Gujarat of L&T and later remaining 90 guns will be manufactured at the same facility and full order will be completed within next 3 years. The Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) based on Indian Army’s current requirements have developed a Prototype Truck-Mounted Howitzer fitted with a 155 mm/52 Dhanush howitzer which is currently going through Internal trials before it can be offered to Indian Army for Trials.

Ordinance Factory Board at Defexpo 2016 had displayed extended 52 Cal gun, which can hit targets over 40 km and also had confirmed that it had completed Internal trials of the new gun and had offered it to Indian Army for User trials. Indian Army presently is carrying out user trials of 45 Caliber Dhanush for which likely order of 400 guns will be placed soon. Continue reading

Indian Air Force has again issued Requested for Information (RFI) for procurement of 110 fighter aircraft. According to RFI which idrw.org has gone through, IAF indents to procure 82 Single Seater and 28 Twin sear aircraft and the selected vendor has to supply 16 aircraft in flyaway conditions.

Remaining 94 aircraft have to be made in India by a Strategic partner of an Indian origin. According to RFI, Aircraft should be all Whether Multi-role and Multi-mission capabilities. Continue reading

Indigenous artillery gun Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) developed by DRDO with Kalyani Group and Tata Power Strategic will be showcased also along with Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) developed Dhanush artillery gun for the first time together at upcoming Defexpo 2018 to be held be held in Chennai from April 11 to 14.

ATAGS and Dhanush Artillery gun for the first time will also be part of the live demonstration for the all the visiting foreign dignitaries and their military attaches and personals with indent to generate export potentials of the weapons systems from friendly countries. Continue reading

Chandraker Bharti, Joint Secretary (Aerospace) while speaking to the media said that Final Operational Clearance (FOC) of Tejas MK-1 will be completed this year and also confirmed that many countries are interested in the purchase of the aircraft but refused to disclose the names.

According to recent media reports, Demonstration of the Mid-Air Refueling Capacity is only major requirement left before Tejas MK-1 will be granted FOC and plans are in place to start trials after June this year. Continue reading

The Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) – Tejas SP-9 (LA-5009) completed its maiden flight after taking off at 10.33hrs from HAL Airport in Bengaluru on 24 March 2018 piloted by Air.Cmdr KA Muthanna (Retd). SP-9 flew for 21 mins and landed back at 10.54hrs.

The LCA Tejas SP-9 is Ninth Series Production aircraft and Second Brand New LCA-Tejas to fly within a span of 11 days. SP-08 had completed its first flight on 13 of this Month Successfully. Continue reading

The Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) – Tejas SP-8 (LA-5008)  completed its maiden flight after taking off at 15.42hrs from HAL Airport in Bengaluru on 13 March 2018 piloted by Gp. Capt. KK Venugopal (Retd) . SP-8 flew for 33 mins and landed back at 16.15hrs .

The LCA Tejas SP-8 will be the Eighth member of the No.45 Squadron of the Indian Air Force also called the ‘Flying Daggers’. The LCA Tejas SP-8 will be handed over to  ‘Flying Daggers’ after completing few production sorties soon. Continue reading

Second indigenous developed Airborne Early Warning and Control System (AEW&C) ‘Netra ‘ Aircraft will be handed over to Indian Air Force Next month after DRDO was able to further fine-tune state-of-the-art active electronically scanned radar, secondary surveillance radar as per the recommendation of IAF.

First Netra aircraft was handed over to IAF last year and the aircraft already has completed 250+ mission sorties accumulating total 500 hours. Continue reading
