Tata Group companies Air India and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) plan to invest Rs 2,300 crore in Karnataka for various projects providing employment to about 1,650 people, it was announced on Monday.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Large and Medium Industries Minister M B Patil were among those present at an MoU signing ceremony in this regard here. Air India is planning to set up a Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility and “create” Bengaluru as the aviation hub in South India, an official statement said.

The Indian Army is poised for a strategic shift in the northern sector, as its Headquarters Uttar Bharat (HQ UB) area undergoes a major transformation. As reported by The Indian Express, the area will be converted into a full-fledged operational corps, marking a significant shift from its current focus on peacetime duties to actively securing the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Currently headquartered in Bareilly, HQ UB functions as a static formation, overseeing peacetime establishments and training facilities in Uttarakhand and western Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, it manages the crucial LAC sector spanning Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, known as the central theatre.

Five years after its groundbreaking, the Sela tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh is poised for inauguration, marking a significant milestone in India’s border infrastructure development. This world’s longest twin-lane tunnel above 13,000 feet promises to revolutionize military logistics in the strategically crucial Tawang sector, where Indian troops stand guard near the contested border with China.

Lieutenant General Harpal Singh (retd), who oversaw critical phases of the project as the head of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), hails the tunnel as a “monumental enhancement” for the Indian army. “It will offer a fortified, expeditious, and dependable conduit for troop mobilization, equipment conveyance, and vital supplies distribution,” he emphasizes.

The Centre agreed on Monday to discuss threadbare the demands for Ladakh’s statehood, the inclusion of the Union Territory in the 6th Schedule of the Constitution and the setting up of an exclusive public service commission for the high-altitude region. The agreement was arrived at a meeting held here between the High Powered Committee (HPC) for Ladakh headed by Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai and a 14-member delegation of the Apex Body of Leh (ABL) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), representing various organisations of the Union Territory.

”The meeting decided to discuss threadbare our main demands: statehood for Ladakh, inclusion of Ladakh in the 6th Schedule of the Constitution and the constitution of the exclusive public service commission for Ladakh on February 24,” according to a joint press release issued by the ABL and KDA. The two organisations from Ladakh also decided to call off ”for the time being” their plan to go on a hunger strike from Tuesday ”in view of this significant development”.

Indian Navy won’t allow the security and safety in the Indian Ocean Region to be disrupted and will teach a “very hard” lesson if piracy is attempted, Admiral R Hari Kumar said on Monday. He said a large number of ships are deployed in the IOR, while three to four ships are off Somalia. Indian Navy is also undertaking anti-drone operations in the North Arabian Sea and Red Sea for the protection of Indians and other people in distress, the Chief of Naval Staff said.

He was speaking to reporters after inaugurating a manufacturing plant of Nibe Defence and Aerospace in Chakan in Pune district.

India has stepped up development assistance to the Maldives with projects gaining pace last year, even as ties have soured over new Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu’s demand for Indian troops to leave his country.

As global powers jostle for influence in the Indo-Pacific region, India and China have wooed the Indian Ocean nation, which has traditionally been close to neighbour India, but recently pivoted towards China under Muizzu. New Delhi has spent nearly 771 crore rupees, or almost twice its budgeted 400 crore on projects in the Maldives during this fiscal year, which ends in March, according to a central official and government documents.

 A total of five Hindu migrants from Pakistan were given Indian citizenship certificates in Jaipur on Monday. Additional District Collector (South), Abu Sufiyan Chauhan, handed over the certificates to the five Pakistani migrants, including Sanjay Kumar, Sunita, Harsha, Nisha and Rajesh Kumar.

After receiving the citizenship certificate, Sanjay Kumar expressed his gratitude to the district administration and said, “The long wait of many years has ended today. We can now say with pride that we are Indians.”

The exercise simulated a scenario where the Akash missile needed to intercept a drone with a low reaction time and minimal radar signature. These features present a difficult challenge for missile systems.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is definitely proceeding on this path having increased its payload capacity using its heavy rocket GSLV from the initial 1,500 kg to 2,274 kg as on date, and is is aiming to launch satellites with heavier weight in the Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO).

And in this direction, ISRO has embarked on a mission to develop next gen rocket that would carry payloads up to 10 tonnes with private industry participation and the process of developing the new rocket has commenced. Buoyed by the success of Saturday’s GSLV-F14/INSAT-3DS mission that launched the thus far one of the heaviest payload which was precisely injected into the GTO using its heavy vehicle GSLV, the Space Agency is further aiming for greater heights for launching satellites with ten tonne capacity.

In a ceremony brimming with pride and partnership, the Indian Navy’s Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, FOC-in-C, ENC, handed over the MCGS Victory to Mr. Anil Kumar Sing Dip, Commissioner of Police, Mauritius Police Force, on Monday. This marked the successful completion of the ship’s maiden refit at Naval Dockyard (Vizag) in Andhra Pradesh.

More than just a handover, the ceremony at Visakhapatnam served as a powerful symbol of the strong bond and cooperation between the Indian and Mauritian forces. The MCGS Victory, designed and constructed by M/s Goa Shipyard Ltd, was originally delivered to the Mauritius Coast Guard in September 2016.

Nibe Industries is one of the leading medium- and small enterprise firms working in the defence sector. They have been working on multiple projects, including canisters for vertical missile launchers, road-mobile launchers for missile systems, and launchers for Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher systems.

After arriving at Singapore on 12 February 2024, the Sarang Helicopter Display Team of the Indian Air Force (IAF) conducted its first practice display on 18 February 2024. The team is operating from the Changi airbase of the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF). The Singapore Airshow is scheduled to commence on 20 February 2024. The airshow features a variety of display teams from all across the globe. The show also features leading aircraft and system manufacturers and operators showcasing their products.

The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), manufactured Advanced Light Helicopter (Dhruv), which the Sarang team operates, is featuring in the show for the very first time. However, the first international display for the Sarang team also happened to be at Singapore for the Asian Aerospace Airshow at Changi Exhibition Center in 2004.

The number of telecom towers along the Line of Control in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) has been increased in recent times with an aim to aid terrorists and their associates in infiltration activities, officials said here. Terror groups have been using highly encrypted YSMS services, a technology that merges smart-phones and radio sets for covert communication purposes, the officials said after a study of the pattern of infiltration bids and recent terror attacks, particularly in the south of the Pir Panjal range in the Jammu region. 

With this technology, a handler of a terror outfit in PoK is connected with the infiltrating group and its reception party in the Jammu region on a telecom network used across the LoC. This is done to avoid detection by the army or the BSF, which guard the borders with Pakistan.
