Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar in a written reply to Sanjay Raut in Rajya Sabha informed Parliamentarians that There are no quality gaps in the systems developed by DRDO and evaluated by the Services.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is primarily involved in design and development of strategic, complex and security sensitive systems in the fields of missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, radars, electronic warfare systems, sonars, combat vehicles, combat aircraft, sensors, etc for the Armed Forces as per their specific Qualitative Requirements. DRDO developed Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) system mounted on Brazilian Embraer EMB-145I aircraft will be handed over to IAF this June and Second aircraft in September this year. Both aircrafts have undergone extensive trails in various forward airbases of India air force, DRDO now wants IAF to explore further option to purchase more aircrafts. Continue reading

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar in a written reply to Ranjib Biswal in Rajya Sabha informed Parliamentarians that Indian Navy has Inducted only 2 Submarines in last 15 years. One was Conventional Diesel powered Kilo-class Submarine and other been leased Russian nuclear-powered Akula-II Attack submarine which joined Indian Navy as INS Chakra. Continue reading

Retired Vice-Admiral Arun Kumar Singh commenting on Modi government clearing indigenous construction of 6 new nuclear-powered attack submarines said new production line in Vizag should be developed for the smooth construction of new attack class submarines.

Cabinet committee on security (CCS) have cleared Proposal to construct new Hunter killer Nuclear submarines and the decision will allow Navy to work on a naval staff qualitative requirements (NSQRs) for new submarines which are likely to be constructed in ship-building centre (SBC) in Vizag where India’s first Ballistic missile submarine INS Arihant was constructed and Arihant sister class submarines are also under construction. Integration of Russian-made Gryazev-Shipunov GSh-23 twin-barreled 23 mm autocannon is an important requirement which needs to be integrated and certified on Tejas MK-1 before Full Operational Capability or Final Operational Capability ( FOC) certification is completed on Tejas MK-1. Plaaf Su-30 fighters in the “Aviadarts-2014”

Chief of the Air Force of the Russian Federation Victor Bondar has confirmed that India along with Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, China, Pakistan will participate in Annual Aviadarts competition to be held in August in the Ryazan and Voronezh regions.

Before your mind wanders into possible Dogfight between Indian and Chinese pilots, Aviadarts International Pilot Competition is to test Pilots ability in real combat scenario for air-to-ground attack at the shooting range using various weapons systems including Rockets and Guided Air to Surface missiles, precision-guided munitions,free-fall dumb bombs and on board cannon on marked but difficult to hit targets on ground. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar in a written reply to Shri H.K. Dua Rajya Sabha today informed that 21 accidents involving Indian Navy ships and submarines have taken place during January 2012 to January 2015.

Lessons learnt from the reports of Board’s of Inquiry (BoI) are implemented appropriately. Corrective steps have been taken by Naval Headquarters with extensive checks on weapon related safety systems and audit of Standard Operating Procedures on all operational naval units. Continue reading

Speaking to idrw.org on sidelines of Aero India 2015 official from Sukhoi Design Bureau revealed that Joint venture on development of 5th generation fighter aircraft which would eventually replace Su-30 and Mig-29 was offered to India for first time in year 2000, almost 15 years back when the Sukhoi Design Bureau was only conducting preliminary design study for development of 5th generation fighter aircraft. Russian Expert Konstantin Makienko Deputy director of Centre for Analysis of Strategies and Technology (CAST) Moscow has warned India that India must do the balancing act and factor in the cost and operational viability while deciding on purchase of air-independent propulsion (AIP)-equipped submarines under Project-75-I .

Air-independent propulsion (AIP) technology offered by Countries who are in the race to supply 6 Conventional Diesel Submarines under Project-75-I to Indian Navy use Different technologies in their AIP and Indian navy will have to take a call on which will suit them better . Continue reading
