Defense PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has joined hands with other Indian state-owned Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) and Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) in the development of next-generation Digital Flight Control Computers (DFCC) for the fifth generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program.

Tejas Mark 1 fleet has indigenous DFCC that is often called Brains of a fighter jet but Mk1A and Mk2 fleet will feature upgraded DFCC with improved computing powers than its predecessor. DFCC planned for the AMCA program will be 10x more powerful than what Mk1A and Mk2 fleet will be getting including Artificial intelligence (AI) component added to it.

Earlier this year ADA had opened a new Flight Control System (FCS) facility for the development of the Avionics and FCS for the AMCA program. ADA has also commenced work on the development of next-generation Avionics, Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) Air Data Computers, Weapon Computers, and LRUs related to Radar Warning Receiver (RWR), and Head-Up Display for the AMCA program.

India plans to develop a 5.5Gen AMCA fighter jet in a Public-Private Partnership with the first flight planned of prototype sometime in 2024-25 with production in 2030-32 for the first batch of 40 AMCA Mk1 and 80 Mk2 to be followed in 2035.
