HAL has confirmed that it will continue to concentrate on the development of Balance Single seater variant of the locally developed LCA-Tejas fighter aircraft and will skip production of the LCA-Tejas Trainer aircraft for time being to avoid considerable delays expected in their production due to lack of final production designs not been frozen yet.

Indian Air Force had placed an order for 20 IOC [initial operational configuration] aircraft (16 fighters and four trainers) and 20 FOC [Final Operational Clearance ] aircraft (16 fighters and four trainers).

PV-5 (KH-T2009) and PV-6 (KH-T2010) are only two Fighter/Trainer Variant of LCA-Tejas fighter aircraft which was developed by HAL to be further developed into standard operational conversion trainers to be used at squadron level to train new pilots coming into a new LCA-Tejas squadron before they are allowed to fly single seater variant.

According to industry sources close to, Both Trainer Variant of LCA-Tejas fighter aircraft have achieved Initial operational Clearance but final production designs which will be quite close to its present design are yet to be frozen.

HAL which has received Letter of Intent from IAF for upgraded Mark-IA for the procurement of 83 Tejas Light Combat Aircraft will include 73 single-seater Mark-IA and 10 two-seat trainer aircraft.
