China must adhere to border management pacts and there has to be peace and tranquillity along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) for improvement in Sino-India ties, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar asserted on Saturday amid the lingering military face-off in eastern Ladakh.

The Indian Navy will commission Naval Detachment Minicoy as INS Jatayu on March 6, a move that seeks to “incrementally augment” security infrastructure at the strategically important Lakshadweep Islands, according to officials.

The commissioning will take place in the presence of Navy Chief Adm R Hari Kumar, they said on Saturday. “The event marks an important milestone in the Navy’s resolve to incrementally augment security infrastructure at the strategically important Lakshadweep Islands,” a senior official said.

A local worker of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was killed by suspected Naxalites in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Friday evening, police said.

This was the seventh killing of a BJP leader or member by suspected Naxalites in Maoist-affected areas of the state in the last one year. The incident took place around 8 pm at Toynar village when Tirupati Katla, a BJP member of the Janpad Panchayat, was attending a wedding, a senior official said. As Katla left the venue of the function, he was attacked with sharp-edged weapons.

An Indian Navy seaman has been reported missing from a naval ship since February 27 and a massive search operation has been launched to trace him. The Mumbai-headquartered Western Naval Command said the sailor has been identified as Sahil Verma and that a high-level board of inquiry has been ordered into the “unfortunate incident”.

“In an unfortunate incident, Sahil Verma, Seaman II, has been reported missing at sea from an Indian Naval Ship whilst on deployment since 27 Feb 24.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has nabbed an absconding accused in connection with the Nizamabad PFI case. Abdul Saleem, who was carrying a cash reward of Rs 2 lakh for his arrest, was arrested from Mydukur in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh in an operation, the NIA said.

He was the ‘State Secretary’ for the ‘PFI Telangana North’ and was charge sheeted in the case involving an anti-India conspiracy by the banned outfit to carry out acts of terror and violence. The agency said he was the 15th accused to be arrested in the case, which was originally registered by the Telangana Police at Nizamabad Police Station in July 2022 and taken over by the NIA in August the same year.

India has issued a fresh Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) indicating forthcoming missile tests in the Bay of Bengal region. The NOTAM outlines two separate missile tests scheduled for the upcoming weeks, each targeting designated areas within the Bay of Bengal.

The first NOTAM, effective from March 5th to March 11th, 2024, pertains to a designated area spanning 320 kilometers. Speculations suggest that this test could likely be another trial of the BrahMos missile, a potent supersonic cruise missile developed jointly by India and Russia.
